I was in college for songwriting when I met my fiancé. We got engaged and started planning a wedding, but things quickly changed. He began using our relationship to control and take advantage of me. It became unhealthy, so I broke off the engagement and tried to move on. I thought I had just missed my period because of stress, but soon I found out I was pregnant.
When I told him, he said he did not have the money for a baby, and I never saw him again. That was when a friend told me about Embrace Grace. She had seen it on Facebook and thought it might help. At first, I almost did not go because I was already working full time and felt overwhelmed, but I am so glad I did.
From the moment I walked in, I met women who understood what I was going through. Many were single moms like me, facing the same fears and struggles. My newfound community helped lift me out of the depression I was in. One of the biggest lessons I learned was that being a single mom does not make me any less loved by God. When I found out I was pregnant, I almost went through with an abortion. I even walked up to the door at Planned Parenthood, but it was locked. At that moment, I knew God was protecting me and my baby.
The women I met through Embrace Grace reminded me again and again that God’s love never changes. That truth gives me strength and inspires me to teach my child about that same unchanging love. Today, I am involved in my church, leading a Bible study and serving on the worship team. Embrace Grace helped me believe that my story is not over. It is just beginning.
