My younger sister found support through Embrace Grace during her unexpected pregnancy. Just one month after she gave birth to my niece, I unexpectedly found out I was pregnant too. Looking back, I truly believe God was already preparing the way for me.
When I learned I was pregnant, my relationship with my baby's father had already ended. While he wanted to be involved in our daughter's life, he didn't want a relationship with me. That was devastating because all I had ever wanted was a family. I grew up in a split home and had always dreamed of giving my child something different. Suddenly, that dream was gone, and I knew I was going to be a single mom.
My sister encouraged me to join Embrace Grace, and because it was a Christian program, I decided to give it a chance. My first night was one of the hardest days of my pregnancy. Earlier that day, I found out my baby's father had already moved on, and every hope I had of us becoming a family disappeared. I quietly cried alone in the bathroom, but the women at Embrace Grace never pressured me to explain what was wrong. They simply welcomed me with kindness, patience, and grace. Little by little, they became more than strangers. They became family.
Every week gave me something to look forward to. The meals, the friendships, and the encouragement reminded me I wasn't alone. Most importantly, God's Word changed my heart. I learned that my worth isn't determined by whether someone chooses me, that forgiveness brings freedom, and that God still had a purpose for my daughter and me. The baby shower was an incredible blessing, providing nearly everything I needed as a single mom.
One of the greatest gifts God gave me was my leader, Kisha. She constantly encouraged me, helped me come out of my shell, and loved me so well that I asked her to be my support person when I gave birth. She stayed by my side through one of the scariest moments of my life, showing me what selfless love truly looks like.
Today, my daughter's father and I co parent peacefully, something I never thought would be possible. Embrace Grace helped me heal, let go of bitterness, and become the mother my daughter needed. It didn't just prepare me for a baby. It prepared my heart, and for that I will always be grateful.
